Resource person: Jess Henry - Adult & Family Programs Manager

Location: VanDusen Guides Classroom | 5151 Oak St, Vancouver, BC, V6M 4H1

Join Bea Martin at VanDusen Botanical Garden for this fun and interactive skill-building workshop, where participants will learn how to bring nature journaling to their classrooms. In a friendly, welcoming, and supportive environment, participants will learn and practice easy activities and exercises, drawing fundamentals, explore a variety of low-cost art materials, and how to apply them to drawing outdoors with their students, using pictures, words, and numbers. Curricular tie-ins abound!

You do not need to be an artist to bring nature journaling to your classroom or keep a nature journal. All you need is a pencil and a sketchbook... and curiosity! We will spend time indoors and outdoors, weather permitting.

Bea Martin is a character animator, certified medical illustrator (CMI), nature journal educator, and Fulbright Scholar with a medical background. With curiosity and enthusiasm, her goal is to craft entertaining, inspiring, and educational stories, merging art with science in a creative collaborative environment. She also supports the creativity and artistic development in children through nature drawing program "Budding Artists" at the Richmond Nature Park, art classes at the Richmond Arts Centre, and her website Curiosity, Creativity and Beyond. You can also find a picnic table she painted, depicting 5 birds of the lower Mainland and their nests, at the park next to the Gulf Georgia Cannery National Historic Site.
