Description:

Improve your drawing skills to capture more realistic depictions of flowers in this four-session series. Instructed by artist and educator Katharine Dickinson, her demonstrations will guide you through various exercises on capturing a flower's identifying features through line, shape, structure and form and observing critical angles and accurate proportions.

Explore watercolour techniques for botanicals, mixing and matching a flower's natural colours, and applying washes and dry brush details.

Art supplies to bring with you:  2H, HB and 2B pencils, pencil sharpener, multimedia sketchbook, printing paper (for drawing exercises), a sheet of 9x12 watercolour paper (hot-Press) for a detailed study, paint palette (white ceramic), watercolour paint set (Windsor & Newton or similar), set of watercolour brushes or #4 and #8 (round with a point)

Instructor's Bio

"Katharine received her MA from the Slade School of Fine Art, University College London, U.K. She worked as a professional illustrator in London for various advertising and publishing companies, illustrating book covers for Margaret Atwood and Kurt Vonnegut, amongst others. She has been working as an artist-educator in Vancouver, specializing in observational drawing methods and techniques for botanical arts and landscape painting, since 2010."

"In her courses, Katharine introduces students to a variety of art-making techniques. She has a unique ability to demonstrate technical information in a way that inspires confidence and builds knowledge. By helping students slow down and experience the meditative effects of focused observational drawing, the process is relaxed and inspirational."   https://dickinsonart.ca/
