Description:
This three-session course is presented by Green Roof Infrastructure (GRIN) and led by Dr. Christine Thuring, with contributions from a team of expert instructors. It will provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of green roofs as multi-functional systems that can be applied to both large and small-scale projects, from buildings to garden sheds. Green roofs support biodiversity (particularly salmon and wild bees), manage stormwater runoff, insulate buildings and protect the building envelope, reduce the urban heat island effect, and help suppress fire. Through lectures, discussions, and collaborative project reviews, participants will gain the knowledge and skills needed to design, install, and maintain green roofs, grounded in a solid understanding of their performance and benefits. The course delivers leading-edge information on design details, construction, and implementation based on current best practices—both industry-wide and specific to Vancouver. Pre-registration is required. Read our cancellation policy here. Image by Randy Sharp.
