About the presentation:

Caitlin ffrench will discuss the ways she gathers and grows plants to work with as dyes, how climate change has been impacting this work, and how you can grow your own colours. ffrench works with these dyed fabric and fibres in her artistic practice and she will be discussing her current body of work.

Caitlin ffrench is a Canadian artist, educator, and writer whose work explores the connections between plants, place, memory, and creativity. Working with wild-gathered mineral and plant pigments, natural dyes, and other ethically foraged materials, they create richly coloured inks, paints, fibres, and textiles inspired by the landscapes they visit. Their practice also explores the parallels between their grief for landscapes experiencing the impacts of climate change and their grief for their body being disabled by multiple sclerosis. Caitlin is the author of Gathering Colour: Foraging Magic & Making Art from the World Around You and is a University Instructor at Emily Carr University of Art + Design.
