Curious about the birds and bees of Vancouver? Join Emily Black, an enthusiastic entomologist and experienced VanDusen guide, as she explores the world of local pollinators and their contributions to the beauty and productivity of nature during this outdoor session. Learn to identify common species, such as bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds, along with their preferred plants and flowers. Get expert tips on creating a 'pollinator-friendly' backyard to support these vital creatures and enhance your garden's biodiversity.   

Online registration is required. The program will take place outside, so please dress for the weather. This is a walking session on both paved and unpaved paths in the Garden.

Instructor's Bio

Emily Black is a lifelong lover of biology who has graduated from catching ladybugs in her childhood backyard to pursuing a PhD in Zoology at the University of British Columbia. In her studies, she explores the weird and wonderful world of butterflies and moths and how these small creatures can have a big impact on our world. She also has a passion for science education and enjoys getting people as excited about animals as she is in her role as a birding guide at VanDusen Gardens.

A credit will be applied to your account for cancellations with one week's notice. With less than a week's notice, no credit will be given. No new credit will be issued if the cancelled course was purchased using prior credit. Program cancellation by the VBGA due to Public Health Restrictions will result in education program credit equivalent to the value lost. Credits must be used within one year from the date issued.
