Description:

Dig In workshops take place outside in the Learning Garden at VanDusen Botanical Garden; these beginner-friendly, monthly sessions cover a variety of seasonal topics to help build your gardening skills.

In this hands‑on May workshop, we’ll explore what to plant for a season of colourful, easy‑to‑grow cut flowers. Learn how to choose varieties that bloom reliably in summer, how to space and plant them for strong stems, and how to encourage continuous flowering.

We’ll cover planting techniques, pinching, watering, and how to harvest for long‑lasting bouquets. A walk through VanDusen’s Learning Garden will highlight how our gardeners set up their summer beds for steady blooms.

Topics include: soil prep, spacing, crop selection, and succession planting for spring & summer.

Led by Sangeeta Thomas, Learning Garden Coordinator, the workshop will include a hands‑on gardening portion, and offer tried & true techniques you can use at home. Participants will take home a small selction of seeds for their own cut flower gardens.

Note: The Learning Garden is accessed via a 15-minute walk along paved and gravel trails. The raised garden beds are wheelchair accessible. The workshop will take place outside, rain or shine; please dress for the weather!
