Description:

Join Poh Tan in this two-session storytelling time to connect with plants at Bloedel Conservatory. In addition to being a scientist, Poh is also a hula dancer, and she learned with Kumu Josie de Baat from Halau Kia'i O Ka Hula. Join us to learn a few basic steps of hula and how hula can help tell meaningful stories about our environment.

For this activity, you need to bring a sarong or a cloth that you can wrap around your hips to dance. No previous experience with hula is required. You can continue practicing and progressing in some hulas moves in the second session and learn new stories.

Poh Tan is a scientist, author, entrepreneur and educator with a Ph.D. in Experimental Medicine and currently pursuing a second Ph.D. in Education. Her research focuses on understanding scientific literacy development through different lenses, including Indigenous Hawaiian epistemology. She has published several research articles, authored and co-authored book chapters, and is a big advocate of STEM education.

Meet at the entrance of Bloedel Conservatory and enter as a group.

These sessions are presented rain or shine. Online pre-registration is required.
