Description:

This course will equip you with essential knowledge on growing Chinese medicinal plants and guide you through proper methods for cultivating, harvesting, processing, and using these herbs. Participants will learn how to grow and use 15 common Chinese medicinal plants, distinguish them from other crops, and understand the factors that influence their quality and therapeutic properties. The course will also explore the history, cultural context, and Eastern perspectives on medicine and health.

This five-session series includes four online sessions, each 1.5 hours long, which will be recorded for later viewing for a limited time. The fifth session is a 2-hour, in-person guided plant walk at VanDusen Botanical Garden, led by Dr. Lily Chunling Liu, where you'll receive Chinese medicinal plant seeds to take home and grow in your own garden. The in-person session will follow both paved and unpaved pathways in the Garden.
