Join us on March 29, 2023 for an in-person Rae Warner Speaker Series event! We're excited to welcome you back to the Garden for an evening with Nina Shoroplova. The talk will be based on her 2020 book, Legacy of Trees: Purposeful Wandering in Vancouver’s Stanley Park. Legacy of Trees will be available for sale at a discounted price at the presentation.

Nina's talk will reflect the sequence of ideas found in her book, starting by looking at the native and special trees that have always been in the area we call Stanley Park, followed by an exploration of the first trees that were planted in the park and why, with a final look at new spaces and uses for the park as it matures. In each of these three sections, Nina will focus on three or more tree species.

About the speaker:

Nina Shoroplova published Legacy of Trees: Purposeful Wandering in Vancouver’s Stanley Park with Heritage House in 2020. This book received an honourable mention in the 2020 British Columbia Lieutenant Governor’s Historical Writing Awards, which are organized by the BC Historical Federation. As Nina Woolliams, she published the bestselling Cattle Ranch: The Story of the Douglas Lake Cattle Company with Douglas & McIntyre in 1979. A naturalist and a member of Vancouver Master Gardeners, she is currently working on her next book about the trees growing  in Metro Vancouver.
