Join us for an engaging and informative professional development session designed to build your knowledge & the skills needed to confidently connect your classroom and curriculum to the fascinating world of birds. Morning Workshop: Schoolyard Birds for Educators - presented by the Vancouver Avian Research Centre (VARC). This program is designed to empower educators with the knowledge and tools to incorporate bird science and nature conservation into their classrooms effectively. Participants will explore the current state of bird populations and the challenges they face in today's world. Through interactive and curriculum-aligned presentations, teachers will discover innovative ways to inspire students to take positive action towards protecting birds and their habitats. Afternoon Workshop: Let's Go Birding! Participants will spend the afternoon out in the Garden practicing tips and tricks for engaging your students in birdwatching, learn to identify some of the most common birds you may find in or around your schoolyard, and explore activities to connect your students to the fascinating world of local birds.
