BlaskTusk Snowmobile Club Instructors: AST-2 Included in the price AST-2 Certification Avalanche Canada qualified instructors Two night lodge based accommodation 6 meals (dinner day 1, breakfast & lunch & dinner day 2, breakfast & lunch day 3) Snowcat transport sleeping gear Avaluator trip planner, text book, handouts, snow study tools New friendships and knowledge. Not included in the price: Transport to and from the course, personal clothing and equipment including your sled. *Self supplied sled, beacon, probe, shovel in good working order You must provide: overnight gear - warm sleeping bag, pillow, indoor shoes, Saturday lunch, beverages, snacks (some gear can be transported via the snow cat) *please advise if you have food allergies. Special diets not accommodated. Blacktusk Snowmobile Club Dates: Zoom meeting Feb TBA Alpine learning center (brohm chalet) March 1 - 13 2024 Course Outline: 5 day course: Day 1 on Zoom: Terminology. Formation and nature of avalanches Day 2 on Zoom: Various avalanche problems Day 3 on the field: Snow observations, weather observations, snow testing, information collection, terrain identification, rescue practice Day 4 on the field: Travel planning, slope management, decision making and more field testing Day 5 on the field: writing objectives, putting it all together, forecasting for a week out, wrap up Students need to bring: avalanche gear-(backpack/shovel/probe/beacon), snowmobile in good working order. Avalanche Skills Training
Level 2. Sled

The BlackTusk Alpine Learning Centre at Brohm Ridge is pleased to be hosting its Avalanche Skills Training Program (AST-2). Instruction by BackCountry Safety Training ltd and avalanche guru Niko Weiss. The Blacktusk clubhouse provide a unique learning environment, its location at 6000 feet maximizes field time, interspersed with classroom, and evening discussions. Engaging with other sledders, trading skills, ideas and stories makes the course fun and helps to reinforce knowledge. Enjoy chef prepared, dinner, lunch and breakfast.
