Description :
It is impossible to live on the West Coast of BC and not be impacted by our weather. This beginner's course will take a macro look at how the Sun, our atmosphere and the rotation of the earth creates weather. We will then look regionally and discover the the air masses that impact the BC coast and the type of weather they bring. Then we will look at BCs unique coastal weather, including the influence of the California current and our coastal mountain ranges. Finally we will spend some time understanding how to read a synoptic weather chart. Instructor: Chris Badger is a Master Mariner who has spent 15 years on ocean going ships with the Merchant Navy and the UK Ministry of Defence. Since emigrating to Canada in the 1980s he has spent over two decades in marine and port operations including stints as the Harbour Master in the ports of Nanaimo and Vancouver. He has also been a marine consultant and has taught meteorology (amongst other things) at the Western Maritime Institute. Like most professional mariners Chris has more than a passing interest in the weather.
