Description :

Explore the nuance behind some of our most common beliefs about health and medicine. Are ideas like “fat makes you fat,” “cholesterol is bad,” “drug side effects are rare,” or “organic food isn’t worth the money” really true? This session takes a closer look at how evidence is presented—and sometimes misrepresented—in the media and medical research. Learn how statistics such as relative risk reduction can make claims seem more impressive than they really are; gaining tools to critically examine health information you encounter every day.

Instructor: Lisa Leger is a health educator who builds bridges between natural approaches to health care and conventional medicine. She critiques standard medical care that adheres to guidelines for symptom management, and calls for holistic treatments that consider all the modifiable factors contributing to illness.
