Description :
The purpose of the American Red Cross Lifeguarding course is to provide entry-level lifeguard participants with the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize, and respond to aquatic emergencies and to provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses until emergency medical services personnel take over. To enroll in the Lifeguarding course you must be at least 15 years old before the last scheduled class session. To participate in the course you must be able to pass a prerequisite skills evaluation by doing the following:
● Swim 150 yards continuously demonstrating breath control & rhythmic breathing. You may swim using front crawl, breaststroke, or a combination of both, but swimming on the back or side is not allowed. Swim goggles may be used.
● Tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs. Your hands will be under your armpits and finish with another 50 yard swim.
● Complete a timed retrieval of a brick within 1 min and 40 seconds. No goggles.

Online Course: Participants are responsible for completing the online coursework (provided by the American Red Cross training center) & submitting documentation of completion. Content must be done prior to the weekend of training. The online content is about 7-9 hours in length & may best be completed over multiple days. It requires a computer & internet connection.
In Person: Participants are expected to demonstrate proficiency in the Lifeguarding precourse skills, all lifeguard rescue skills, first aid, CPR/AED, & must pass the final written exams/scenarios. Participants are responsible to review materials prior to attending the class, be physically prepared to do all required skills, & attend the full session.
Participants will be provided with their own pocket mask for the in person portion.

Sessions: (classes may go shorter OR longer depending on the group skill set)
Registration: $250 by 04/12/2025

Notes : A full refund will be offered if participants can't pass the pre skills test. No refund will be offered the the participants attempt the class and fail to complete all required components.
