The National Theatre School of Canada is honored to welcome internationally renowned artist Ellen Lauren. 

From June 8–12, Ellen will lead a workshop in the Suzuki Method of Actor Training and Viewpoints. This workshop is open to all professional artists in Canada and internationally.

The Suzuki Method  

Developed by internationally acclaimed director Tadashi Suzuki and the Suzuki Company of Toga, the Suzuki Actor Training Method's principal concern is with restoring the wholeness of the human body to the theatrical context and uncovering the actor's innate expressive abilities. A rigorous physical discipline drawn from such diverse influences as ballet, traditional Japanese and Greek theater, and martial arts, the training seeks to heighten the actor's emotional and physical power and commitment to each moment on the stage. 

Viewpoints  

The Viewpoints is a technique of improvisation that grew out of the postmodern dance world. It was created by choreographer Mary Overlie, who broke down the two dominant materials performers collaborate with—time and space—into six categories. She called her approach the Six Viewpoints. Since that time, Artistic Director Anne Bogart and SITI Company have expanded her notions and adapted them for actors. The Viewpoints allows a group of actors to function together spontaneously and intuitively and to generate bold, theatrical work quickly. It develops flexibility, articulation, and strength in movement and makes ensemble playing really possible.

L’École nationale de théâtre du Canada accueille l’artiste internationale Ellen Lauren du 8 au 12 juin pour un atelier sur la méthode Suzuki de formation de l’acteur et les Viewpoints. Cet atelier est ouvert aux artistes professionnels du Canada et d'ailleurs.

La méthode Suzuki
Développée par Tadashi Suzuki et la Suzuki Company of Toga, cette méthode vise à restaurer l’intégrité du corps humain dans le théâtre et à révéler les capacités expressives innées de l’acteur. Rigoureuse et inspirée de diverses influences (ballet, théâtre traditionnel japonais et grec, arts martiaux), elle cherche à renforcer l’engagement émotionnel et physique de l’acteur sur scène.

Les Viewpoints
Créée par Mary Overlie, cette technique d’improvisation découle de la danse postmoderne. Elle décompose les deux matériaux dominants avec lesquels les acteurs collaborent : le temps et l’espace, en six catégories appelées les Six Viewpoints. Anne Bogart et la SITI Company ont développé ces notions pour le théâtre. Cette approche permet aux acteurs de travailler ensemble de manière spontanée et intuitive, favorisant ainsi un jeu d’ensemble audacieux et énergique.
