AKYSB Canada believes that every participant should have the opportunity to participate in our programs, regardless of financial circumstance. If you feel you would benefit from attending but are unable—not unwilling—to pay the full fees, you may apply for financial assistance.
As stewards of community resources, AKYSB Canada is responsible for ensuring that financial assistance is allocated fairly and transparently to those who need it most. As part of this commitment, we are implementing a more thorough assessment process than in previous years. This includes collecting supporting documentation to help us make informed decisions and uphold accountability. While we recognize this may feel like a change, it reflects our growing responsibility to the community and ensures that funds are distributed with integrity and equity.
Please note: Financial assistance does not cover 100% of program fees. All applicants are expected to contribute a portion of the cost.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
1. Who is eligible to apply for financial assistance?
Anyone who demonstrates financial need and is committed to participating fully in the program may apply. We understand that circumstances vary, and we encourage you to apply if you believe assistance would make participation possible.
2. Is it possible to attend a program for free?
No. While financial assistance is available, all participants are required to pay a portion of the program fees.
3. How do I apply for financial assistance?
You’ll need to complete a short financial assistance form as part of your camp registration process.
4. What kind of financial information will I need to provide?
You may be asked to share basic details such as employment status, household income, number of dependents, and any special financial circumstances. In some cases, supporting documents may be requested to assess your needs fairly.
All information is treated confidentially and used solely to evaluate your application.
5. Why do you ask for documents like a Notice of Assessment, pay stub, bank statements, or credit card statements?
We ask for supporting documents to assess financial need fairly and accurately. These documents help us understand your current financial situation, including income, expenses, and any financial pressures you may be facing, so we can provide assistance where it’s most needed.
Examples of documents that may be requested include:
- Notice of Assessment / Pay stub (to verify income)
- Bank statements (to understand monthly cash flow)
- Credit card statements (to identify recurring expenses or debt load)
We recognize that this can feel personal, and we take your privacy very seriously.
All documentation is:
- Handled with strict confidentiality
- Viewed only by a small, authorized team
- Used solely to determine financial need
If you're unsure about what to submit or feel uncomfortable, please email us, as we’re here to support you through the process.
6. How is my application assessed?
Applications are reviewed by a small, confidential committee. If necessary, your information may be shared with assessment teams from the Aga Khan Economic Planning Board or the Future Ready Institute, all of whom follow strict privacy guidelines.
7. What if my financial situation appears stable, but I have additional circumstances to share?
We understand that a standard application might not fully capture every unique circumstance. Even if your financial details seem adequate on paper, factors such as having multiple children or other significant responsibilities can greatly impact your overall financial well-being. If this is the case, please use the additional information section on the application form to provide any extra details. This extra context helps us assess your situation more holistically and fairly.
8. When will I find out if I’ve been approved?
We aim to review and respond to all financial assistance applications within 15-20 days of submission. You will be contacted directly with the outcome.
9. If I receive financial assistance, what is expected of me?
You are expected to:
- Keep all financial discussions and outcomes strictly confidential
- Pay your portion of the program fees in full before the start of the program
10. Will others know that I (or my child/family) received financial assistance?
No. Your application and its outcome are treated with the utmost confidentiality. Only a limited number of individuals are involved in the process, including:
- AKYSB finance and leadership
- Program managers
- If required, members of the Aga Khan Economic Planning Board and the Future Ready Institute assessment team
11. What if my financial situation changes after I apply?
If your financial circumstances change — either for better or worse — please let us know as soon as possible. We will do our best to work with you and adjust your contribution accordingly.
12. What if I still can’t afford to pay my portion?
Please reach out. Our goal is to support access wherever possible. While full funding is not guaranteed, we can explore flexible payment plans or other solutions.
