Description :

Horsehair raku is a pottery decorating technique. The process involves removing hot wares from a kiln before they have had time to cool and quickly adding carbon-rich materials to the surface to create smoke patterns and carbon trails on the hot surface. Horsehair and feathers are the most common carbon-rich materials used for this firing technique.

Students will be able to decorate their own pre-made vessel with horsehair and feathers to create their own one-of-a-kind piece of art. Our instructors will each create a vessel for this MITI that students will be able to fire, decorate, and take home that day.

NOTE: This MITI will require participants to work close to fire and hot wares. Please wear closed-toe shoes, long sleeves, and have hair pulled back out of the face. Synthetic or loose clothing is not recommended due to the proximity to flames.
