Description

The Marine Science Institute provides engaging and interactive hands-on adventures with San Francisco Bay Area marine life. A trip to MSI promises a fun, immersive day on the water, where students from all backgrounds can explore their interests in science and the natural world outside of the traditional classroom. Students learn respect and stewardship for the bay with inspiring experiences led by expert marine educators. From classroom voyages on the 90-foot R/V “Robert G. Brownlee,” to inland voyage school visits by MSI’s traveling aquarium, to week-long camps and family events, MSI offers a wealth of ways to experience the marine environment in bay, shoreline and classroom environments. MSI’s enthusiastic educators teach students with an interactive, accessible style, that is backed up with a professional science background. Students love the opportunity to touch a shark or stingray, see plankton moving under a microscope, and discover the richness of life in something as simple as the mud at the bottom of the Bay. Students learn from marine biologists how to think like scientists, brainstorm with their classmates, and contribute to original research on their amazing MSI voyage. More than a million students have learned to care for the environment over MSI’s 40 years as a non-profit, and MSI offers subsidies to ensure everyone can participate. Students can have a life-changing experience as they learn to respect and protect the natural environment.
