Home-Enabling Supports offer a new way to help people who are eligible for OPWDD services and the Home and Community-Based Services Waiver gain greater independence. These supports use technology and tools to reduce reliance on staff at home and in the community. Devices and services may include, but are not limited to, Assistive Devices/Technology, Remote Supports, and Health Assessment and Coordination Services (HACS). 

Hosted by Mid Island YJCC Access Coordination and Adler center. 

 

 This informative workshop is for parents or professionals in New York State.  

Nadine Daley,: forward-thinking human services executive, advocate, policy designer, and public speaker dedicated to advancing dignity, inclusion, and meaningful outcomes for people with disabilities. With more than 15 years of senior management experience, she brings deep expertise in nonprofit governance, advocacy, program development, innovative practice and systems change, 

 

 Meghan O'Sullivan began her professional career as a nurse in New York City before transitioning her focus to using technology to support independence. She has worked and collaborated with SimplyHome since 2010 and is currently their North Eastern Sales Representative. SimplyHome has emerged as a leader in pioneering new support models. Through customized enabling remote supports, technology solutions, training and advocacy SimplyHome partners with families and organizations to achieve greater independence for individuals and offer more choices for support. 

 

We will review the following: 

• Home and Community Wavier 

• The process of applying for HES 

• Assistive Devices and Technology used to support safety, independence, and routines 

• Remote Supports  

• Health Assessment and Coordination Services (HACS) 

. 

HES gives people with developmental disabilities better access to the same opportunities available to others in the community. 

The selected not-for-profit agencies can buy Home-Enabling Supports on a person’s behalf if there is a clear reason to believe the support will: 

• Increase safety 

• Improve independence 

• Improve health 

• Help them take part in meaningful community activities
