Description :

In this exciting new series, an all-star roster of leading writers and experts will take us on a thrilling tour through architectural history, each delivering a talk on their favourite modern buildings.

With critic Christopher Hume in our closing and opening sessions, and Speakers Annex favourites leading the other sessions, we’ll explore the intriguing stories of the Eiffel Tower in Paris, stunning buildings in Prague, and groundbreaking buildings by Arthur Erickson, Frank Gehry, and others.

As we explore the ways that each of these brilliant achievements shaped the look and feel of the world we inhabit today, we’ll come away from the series with a fresh new sense of perspective on the buildings and cities around us, alive to the rich history of their architectural wonders.

This series will feature six exciting talks:

Former Toronto Star architecture critic Christopher Hume on Louis Sullvan’s Guaranty Building and the birth of the skyscraper

Globe and Mail architecture critic Alex Bozikovic on Toronto’s most influential buildings

Author John Ota on Arthur Erickson’s Museum of Anthropology in Vancouver and Canadian Modernism

Writer Lisa Pasold on the intriguing history of the Eiffel Tower

Architecture writer Stefan Novikovic on Frank Gehry's Dancing Building and Prague’s influence on modern architecture

Christopher Hume on New York City’s High Line, London’s Tate Modern Gallery and the future of architecture in the 21st Century
