Description :

The National Ringette School is offering a new two week evening program at Mount Pleasant Arena for U16 and U19 age groups focused on tryout prep.

U16 COMPETITIVE PREP PROGRAMMING:

Open to competitive players born from 2010 to 2011 currently playing or likely to be playing AA and A in the upcoming season.

SCHEDULE:

Participants can expect a challenging and physically demanding program which includes the following:

  • August 5, 6, 11, and 12

    • 5:30pm-6:45pm - One 1.25 hour on-ice session ran by former Calgary RATH Athlete Lindsey Geddes and other instructors

    • 7:00pm-8:00pm - One fitness session ran by former Calgary RATH Athlete and Strength/Conditioning Coach Gracie Brown

  • Friday, August 15

    •  5 on 5 game where athletes have the opportunity to show off newly acquired skills and simulate a tryout scrimmage.

  • All ice times and Fitness sessions take place at Mount Pleasant Arena.

The Competitive Prep program ice times are designed and delivered by Lindsey Geddes.

A bit about Lindsey Geddes...

Lindsey played for the Calgary RATH for 9 seasons and is a two time National Ringette League Gold Medalist. Since ending her career in the NRL she has found her passion in coaching. Her goals as a coach are:

  • To provide a high quality experience that inspires athletes to grow, change, and develop to their fullest potential

  • To foster an environment that balances competitiveness with development

  • To introduce elite ringette concepts to boost knowledge of competitive ringette at all levels

  • To educate ringette players and coaches on high performance tactics 

The focus of the ice times will be on the following:

  • Power, agility, and conditioning skating instruction

  • Advanced ringette skills to further refine the athlete’s development in situational play,

  • Being successful defensively and offensively in 1 on 1, 2 on 1, 2 on 2 situations

  • Overall technique refinement 

  • Specific feedback will be provided as it relates to what evaluators and coaches typically look for during tryouts.

  • Standard evaluation sheets will be provided as take home material for players to review 

The Competitive Prep fitness sessions developed and delivered by Speed School and Coach Gracie. 

A bit about Speed School:

Speed School is a Calgary-based Sports Performance company specializing in Athlete Development for athletes aged 12-18. Our programs are designed to improve performance and reduce injury risk, while being safe and inviting for athletes new to training. We are excited about teaming up with the NRS to bring high-quality training to Ringette players around the city.

A bit about: Coach Gracie

Coach Gracie grew up playing Ringette and spent 2 years competing with the Calgary RATH. After becoming a Certified Personal Trainer, she is now focused on giving back to the sport of Ringette by developing the next generation of players as a Strength & Conditioning Coach through Speed School. She will be leading all of the dryland training sessions and will be a wealth of knowledge for all of those involved.

The Fitness sessions will focus on the following:

  • Power, agility, and conditioning

  • Skating Specific exercises that improve on-ice performance

  • Proper Warm Up and Cool Downs

  • Instruction about training - why do we train, how often should we train, what type of training do ringette players need to be successful?
