Description :

In Person Dance Class Assistant

Canada’s National Ballet School (NBS) is looking for volunteers with a diversity of experience and a mix of skill sets such as; Special Education, Dance Education, Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy.

Adaptive Dance Program

The NBS Kids – Adaptive Dance Program was created by NBS, in consultation with Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital and offers adapted creative movement classes for participants ages three to adult with diverse physical, developmental and sensory needs. This program is centred on fostering a love for dance and dancers are welcome to engage in the class in a way that feels right to them.

Volunteer opportunity: Each class is led by an NBS Community Dance Educator and supported by a live accompanist. All of our Stream 1 programming is accompanied by an Occupational Therapist and a team of volunteers that provide 1:1 support throughout the class. While our Stream 2 and 3 programming is tailored toward dancers who are both ready and working towards participating more independently in programming, with volunteers present to support.

We rely on volunteers to deliver quality programming! To help us get to know you better, please take a few minutes to fill out this volunteer application. Please note, we can only consider completed application packages. Should you have any questions while completing this application, please feel free to email adaptivedance@nbs-enb.ca

Sharing Dance Parkinson's

Sharing Dance Parkinson's was informed and inspired by the Mark Morris Dance Group's Dance for PD® program. The program is specially designed to make dance accessible to people living with Parkinson's disease (PD).

Numerous studies indicate that dance is uniquely beneficial for people living with PD - improving gait, posture, and balance (Shanahan et al., 2015). Beyond physical benefits, dance encourages social inclusion and personal and artistic expression. Increased social engagement (Foster et al., 2013) and improved quality of life (Heiberger, 2011) have also been captured in research studying the impact of dance for people living with PD.
