Accessibility, Inclusion and Individual Support Needs
BGC Weston Mount Dennis & Lawrence Heights Club welcomes children of all abilities and is committed to providing an inclusive, accessible, safe, and meaningful camp experience.
Parents and guardians are encouraged to share any disability-related, neurodevelopmental, medical, behavioural, communication, sensory, mobility, personal-care, or other support needs that may affect their child’s participation in the program.
A member of the management team may contact the parent or guardian to discuss the child’s strengths, functional needs, successful strategies, safety considerations, and any requested accommodations. Information will be considered individually and kept confidential.
Our Summer Camp operates using a group-based staffing model. Dedicated one-to-one staffing and hands-on personal-care assistance are not included as part of the standard camp program. However, accommodation requests will be reviewed individually, and management will work with the family to explore reasonable options that support the child’s dignity, independence, inclusion, and safety.
Accommodation options may include program or activity modifications, visual schedules, transition supports, an individualized participation plan, a mutually agreed-upon trial or transition period, or the involvement of a support person, where appropriate.
Where a dedicated support person may be necessary for health or safety reasons, management will consult with the family, review the relevant information, and consider other reasonable and less restrictive accommodation options before making a decision.
Registration does not automatically confirm that every requested support can be provided. However, participation decisions will not be based solely on a child’s diagnosis, disability, or identification as neurodivergent.
Washroom Independence and Personal Care
Camp staff do not provide diapering, changing, wiping, lifting, transfers, or other hands-on toileting or personal-care assistance.
Children are generally expected to manage their washroom needs independently. Where a child has a disability-related toileting or personal-care need, the request will be reviewed individually to determine whether a reasonable accommodation or support plan can be arranged.
Parents and guardians must contact the management team before the child’s first day of camp if washroom or personal-care support may be required. This allows sufficient time to discuss the child’s needs and determine an appropriate plan before attendance begins.
