Rescue Simulation is a robot rescue simulation competition environment. The engine runs with a sophisticated simulation platform called Webots(TM). Webots, created by Cyberbotics , has been incorporated with sophisticated physics engine to simulate issues in the physical world. It is designed for a professional use, and it is widely used in industry, education and research.
More about this simulation platform:
Teams can focus on exploration using simulation environment to enhance their robotics programming and problem solving skills without being bogged down by the monetary cost, mechanical and electronic specific issues from the physical components.
For more advanced students, members can also design and build the prototype of robotic devices within the virtual environment. Thus, students will still be able to design, much like C.A.D. for their hardware components. This advantage comes from Webots being an open-source and multi-platform desktop application used to simulate robots. It provides a complete development environment to model, program, and simulate robots.
-----------------------------------------------------

Storming Robots utilizes Robotics to animate problem-solving efforts starting in Grade 5. However, we encourage students to study in this Algorithms in C/C++ Track starting no later than Grade 8. This syllabus consists of five levels. The
Focus on problem solving ability with computational thinking (CT) - go far beyond just programming and the syntax itself.
Levels comparable up to college level from Freshman to junior year topics in CS, such as data structure, introduction to algorithms, and complexity analysis.
Has proven its effectiveness with excellent student records, and empower them to conduct effective self-learning and conducting independent projects.
Students completed level I with high “proficiency” have the capacity to self-study for Advanced Placement Computer Science (AP CS A). Majority of these students score 5 (max) in AP with a short review on fundamental object-oriented structure.
Involve American Computer Science League (ACSL) Competition Work.
ACSL: far more advanced and involved in CS college level materials than AP CS-A.
Majority of our Level III students participate in SR’s advanced robotics electives.
One of the common traits among the students with high proficiency in this level is their high ability to adapt other technologies. Majority of these students achieved the minimum silver level in the USA Computing Olympiad (USACO) problems sets. Do note: USACO: More demanding in terms of analytical, and computational programming skill than ACSL It can be very challenging even to the best students.
Level IV students will go into non-linear data structures - usually covered 2nd and 3rd year in College. Majority of these students achieved the goal level in USACO. However, that’s not the most ultimate goal of this level. The ultimate goal is strengthening students’ ability to create advanced applications and robotics projects at their own choosing – see our SR development Group and Advanced Independent Projects site.
High proficiency in this level matches professional quality, and gain high competitive edge to Internships available for high school students in the USA.
Will need to purchase a book, and download programming IDE software (free). Please visit our CS site for details.

Computational Thinking CS - Algorithms in C/C++

In today's digital landscape, CS with computational literacy stands as fundamental as the ABCs.
Contrary to widespread belief, computer science is often misunderstood as mere coding. It's far more than that—it's a mindset, a journey that cultivates proficiency and adaptability. Learning code solely for its sake doesn't inherently foster problem-solving abilities.
Regrettably, grade school education frequently neglects a crucial aspect, resulting in a significant gap as students advance from middle school to high school and subsequently to college.
At Storming Robots, we acknowledge this void—a gap that impedes students' progression. Our forthcoming pilot computer science program for Grades 5 to 7 is centered on imparting concrete computer-centric knowledge, addressing the current shortfall in middle school CS computing literacy.
Additionally, we engage students through the American Computer Science League Contests, fostering participation and measuring progress through annual competitions. Moreover, our focus on fundamental programming in the C language, closer to the machine level, sets us apart from conventional approaches using Blockly or Python.

Track: Robotics and Electronic Elective
(using a competitive platform)
For budding engineers who:
Crave for robotic and programming challenges with a platform which offers much higher expandability, but much lower cost than the LEGO or other box-kit.
Hope to participate in our AI-oriented Robotics Competition which demands 100% full automation involving sophisticated challenges.
Prefer creating a custom platform with expandability instead of a mandated set.
Students will work with an open-source custom platform. They will continue the Learn-By-Doing model.
This track focuses on building competency in solving problems and solution development with knowledge in both computer programming and using microcontroller, i.e. in both software and hardware in electronic interfaces.
Just like all other programs at SR, students will be engaged in active learning with open-ended robotics projects. No cookie-cutter programs! Projects developed infuse computer programming, mechanical and electronic aspects required in robotic context.
Covered the fundamentals about using a open-source controller - PICO - robotics projects with a lot of programming challenges.
Systematic trouble-shooting with electronic devices.
Each topics is accompanied by multiple samples followed by challenges.
Develop amart robot with proper engineering process
Basic Electronics concepts through interfacing with analog , digital and I2C devices. Systematic trouble shooting skills to handle programming and electronic issue.
From time to time, there will be mini-contests to encourage collaboration and competitiveness.
As they progress to more advanced level, they will continue working with add-ons, such as multiplexing, deeper understanding of how to utilize I2C devices, feedback control, and writing a much larger scale project. Understanding applied electronics concepts, such as fundamentals in Ohms Law, voltage vs. current, amperage etc., in high school physics. Lower level understanding how to manipulate multiple I2C devices, and software interrupt
Students who demonstrate proficiency will be invited to participate in Robotics Competition. (Students at this stage, along with Algorithms in C/C++ - III should be equipped good level of skill set to create their own independent projects involving hardware - a good addition for their college application)
Software - C/C++ with MS visual studio.
Hardware:
This is a customized platform aiming for the high compatibility with other electronic devices. Along with other electronic accessories will cost approx. $180 - $200 only (see the Bill of Materials - subject to change due to update and availability.)

Track: Robotics and Electronic Elective
(using a competitive platform)
