Description :
This six-week mixed media course incorporates painting, drawing, collage, and collaboration through the process of completing a series of abstract mixed media artworks. Each week we focus on a different approach to the creative process while highlighting relevant contemporary artists and collage-based techniques and materials. Students collect ephemera from their lives—papers, photographs, fabric, drawings, anything really—to incorporate into their series. Class time is spent in high production mode, meaning that students will work at a steady pace. There are two critiques during the course. Critiques focus on constructive feedback and thoughtful observation. Students leave with a completed series of mixed media artworks in their own style. This course is open to experienced artists as well as beginners. About the Instructor: Maria Britton was born in Florence, SC, in 1982. She currently lives and works in Carrboro, NC.
