Is the growth of AI a good thing or a bad thing? In this interactive presentation, William Fleeson, Hultquist Family Professor of Psychology at Wake Forest University, received a BA in philosophy from Wisconsin, a PhD in psychology from Michigan, and postdoctoral training in Germany. Interests include the nature of personality, borderline personality disorder, moral character, and
William Fleeson will describe the perils and promises of AI for attendees to decide for themselves. He will describe AI’s threats, including the immediate threats -- for example, do students graduating now have a decent chance at
employment -- as well as the long-term threats that sound like science fiction but that knowledgeable researchers take seriously. Fleeson will also describe the promises of AI -- for example, will AI rapidly extend lifespan by decades? For each, he’ll ask: Is it realistic? On what timeline? And what can be done about it? This will be an interactive presentation including discussion and hands-on activities.

All classes are held in the CLE Lecture Hall at the Peggy Crosby Center unless otherwise noted.
