Life Enrichment Opportunities through Education, Art and More!
Start date: Friday, July 17 2026.
Schedule:
Friday, 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM ,
Resource person: Audra Bullard
Description:
The 2025 Georgia Author of the Year, Dr. Mimi Zieman, will share the writing process and story behind her memoir “Tap Dancing on Everest.” The book recounts her decision, at age 25, to overcome self-doubt and serve as the sole medical support—and only woman—on a groundbreaking Everest expedition in Tibet. The climbers used no oxygen or Sherpa support, and rescue was not an option. “Tap Dancing on Everest” was named Best Memoir by the American Writing Awards. She will discuss (1) the challenges and rewards of writing memoir; (2) how her family’s Holocaust history shaped her narrative; (3) themes of risk-taking and the science of authenticity; and (4) how feminism informs her writing and advocacy for women’s health. The session will include photographs from the Everest expedition, time for Q&A ,and a book signing. Mimi Zieman is an OB/GYN, writer, and speaker. In addition to “Tap Dancing on Everest,” she has written a play, “The Post-Roe Monologues,” that has been performed in multiple cities. Other writing has appeared in USA Today, Newsweek, Salon, The Sun Magazine, Ms. Magazine, and elsewhere. Her Substack newsletter, “Medicine, Mountains & More,” combines medical news with inspiration from art and nature.
