This presentation will focus on what we can do as individuals and what policy
changes we can advocate for to help preserve Democracy in the face of our new social media landscape. Although conspiracy discourse has been with our nation from the start, conspiracy theorists today utilize powerful communication platforms such as TikTok, Instagram, X, and Facebook to
energize audiences into a more participatory model of generating conspiracies. This presentation will examine how we can influence the algorithms that channel information our way, the implications of Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, and how to talk with family and friends who have become invested in a particular conspiracy theory.

All classes are held in the CLE Lecture Hall at the Peggy Crosby Center unless otherwise noted.
