Description:

No class on November 26th. Four weeks of classes.

This coming November Christine Joy is looking forward to teaching a new watercolor class inspired by some of the plants we see in our yards and gardens this time of year. In this watercolor class we will be using the addition of traditional botanical pen and ink technique. Pen and watercolor go so well together when depicting plants and natural subjects - and it is also a lot of fun to make!

In this 4 week class, each session we will be painting/drawing from plants from life rather than from photographs. Christine will give a demonstration at the beginning of each class and then the rest of class will be painting time for the students. She will make sure each student gets attention and tips based on their experience.

This class will be great for first time painters as well as intermediate painters. For beginning painters we will learn how to set up our palettes and go through some of the basics of watercolors. For more advanced painters there will be some further tips and tricks to approaching different forms of specific landscapes and the various challenges each one can pose. Some other focuses of these classes will include: brushwork, texture, and of course some color theory! Here is a basic outline some things we will do in our coming class:

Week 1: Pumpkins and Gourds (How to use pen and ink with watercolors)

Week 2: Autumn leaves and Florals (How to create texture with pen and paint)

Week 3: Evergreens and Pine Cones (Arranging our composition)

Week 4: Holly and Ivy (Color matching to get accurate colors in our painting)

Though watercolors/pen and ink can seem like a tricky medium to some, there are many strategies we will work on together to make the process not only easier but also more enjoyable! Watercolors are an amazingly compact medium making the supplies easy to take anywhere. Once the students have their watercolor kits made they will be able to use it for many years to come.

Christine is looking forward to painting with you!
