Description:

This coming January, Christine Joy is looking forward to teaching a new watercolor class which is inspired by a beautiful subject found in many landscapes - water! There are several unique qualities to water - it is clear, reflective and textured. Here we will be focusing on 4 different kinds of water found in Oregon landscapes.

In this 4 week class, we will be painting oceans, rivers, clear reflective lakes, and waterfalls. Christine will give a demonstration at the beginning of each class and then the rest of class will be painting time for the students. Christine will make sure each student gets attention and tips based on their experience.

This class will be great for first time painters as well as intermediate painters. For beginning painters we will learn how to set up our palettes and go through some of the basics of watercolors. For more advanced painters there will be some further tips and tricks to approaching different forms of specific landscapes and the various challenges each one can pose. Some other focuses of these classes will include: brushwork, texture, and of course some color theory!

Here is a basic outline of some things we will do in our coming class:

Week 1: Oceans - Here we will learn how to mix colors to match those of which we can see at the beach.

Week 2: Rivers - In this class we will focus on different kinds of textures found in rivers.

Week 3: Reflective Lakes- Here we will be working on creating reflections in our water scenes.

Week 4: Waterfalls - For our final class we will work on painting water in motion.

Each student is welcome to bring their own photographs of each of these kinds of scenery to work on in class - however there will also be photos provided in class for inspiration.

Though watercolors can seem like a tricky medium to some, there are many strategies we will work on together to make the process not only easier but also more enjoyable! Watercolors are an amazingly compact medium making the supplies easy to take anywhere. Once the students have their watercolor kits made they will be able to use it for many years to come.

Christine is looking forward to painting with you!
