Description:

This 6 week session course will be structured as a studio session providing beginner and advanced artists an opportunity to draw the human figure. There will be one nude art model during the series, attending each session. Each session will have the model in varying poses and time increments led by artist instructor Sagan Newham.

This course takes place over six Saturdays from 10am-1pm.

Sessions will be self-directed with an instructor present for specific help, guidelines, and examples. Horses and easels are provided, but students must bring their own materials.

Why Figure Drawing?
"When you draw from life you’re attempting to capture the world as it really is. This means studying forms, proportions, perspective, shading, and all the fundamentals that go along with learning to draw. [...] Mastering the figure is about more than just shapes and muscles and bones. It’s about movement, weight, balance, and tension. It’s about studying the model’s weight-bearing leg or how they position their hips to hold a certain pose. As you study these minor details through figure drawing you’ll learn to see them everywhere."
- Concept Art Empire

"As a teaching artist my goal is to educate students on the fundamentals of art, design, and then inspire conceptual growth. I reach this goal by facilitating a comfortable and encouraging work setting. My classroom values growth over skill level, encourages diligent studio habits, and supports sincere exploration of new media and concepts. I value aesthetic discussions and researched input during critiques. In this process, students become stronger visual communicators, more informed conceptual artists, and are provided the tools to better support and articulate their ideas throughout their prospective life experiences."
