Join us to celebrate the holiday season and paint Santa Claus! One Day Workshop only. 

Christine Joy is looking forward to teaching a new watercolor workshop inspired by the spirit of Christmas - we are painting Santa Claus! Rumor has it, we will have Santa Claus with us to paint directly from life - so feel free to wear your best Christmas sweater to class.

Christine will give a demonstration at the beginning of class and give some basics on portrait painting. Afterwards, the rest of class will be painting time for the students. Christine will make sure each student gets attention and tips based on their experience. 

This class will be great for first time painters as well as intermediate painters. For beginning painters (please come 15 minutes early if a beginner) we will learn how to set up our palettes and go through some of the basics of watercolors. For more advanced painters there will be some further tips and tricks. Some other focuses of these classes will include: brushwork and of course some color theory.

Though watercolors can seem like a tricky medium to some, there are several strategies we will work on together to make the process not only easier but also enjoyable! Watercolors are an amazingly compact medium making the supplies easy to take anywhere. Once the students have their watercolor kits made they will be able to use it for many years to come.

MATERIALS: 

• 140lb Arches cotton cold press paper OR Watercolor journal (with thick paper inside - can be found at the Merri Artist in McMinnville)

• Watercolor palette (one that folds close)

• Paint Brushes (soft synthetic):

  • #10 round

  • #4 or #5 round

  • rigger/liner (thin and long)

  • large flat edge brush

• Paper Towel Roll

• Watercolor Paint Tubes:

  • cadmium yellow light

  • cadmium yellow deep

  • cadmium red

  • alizarin crimson

  • violet

  • ultramarine blue

  • phthalo blue

  • hookers green

  • burnt umber

  • payne's gray

  • Optional Additional Colors:
    cadmium orange
    permanent magenta
    burnt sienna
    yellow ochre
    cerulean blue hue (Grumbacher Academy brand - found at Blicks)
    permanent green/gold

• small notebook for notes (optional)
