Brand new to the world of wheelthrowing or need a brushup? Also offering a Thursday daytime option! Join our Wednesday night course if you prefer a general overview of all Beginning Ceramics. This is a great class to get initial experience or as a refresher to brush up on developing skills. Students will learn to prepare themselves and their clay, throwing and trimming skills, and the basic necessities for making simple forms with the potter’s wheel. (Pottery Wheel ONLY Course) Taught by Mark Terry ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR Mark Terry, MFA MEd Emeritus Professor of Art & Design "A potter is one of the few people left who uses his natural faculties of heart, head and hand in balance – the whole [hu]man." Bernard Leach, 1940 Mark has spent most of his adult life introducing students of all ages to the power of creativity – inviting them to join him in the experience of power and mystery attendant to being a maker. A working professional potter and sculptor, he is happiest when up to his elbows in clay. Mark’s academic research focused on wood-fired ceramics, and for the last 20 years he has devoted much of his time outside the classroom to designing, building, and firing wood-fueled kilns. PLEASE NOTE: This class is being kept at a max of 9 students for studio guidelines For extra studio time: students must make reservations to access and work in the studio. Students will receive rebate codes via email that can be redeemed for free studio time during the course of their class, expiring two weeks after the course ends.
