Music Appreciation Course with Chilliwack ElderCollege

Join us for an enriching journey through the world of classical music with Chilliwack ElderCollege’s Music Appreciation course in partnership with the Chilliwack Academy of Music. This series of lectures, led by knowledgeable instructors, will explore significant works and composers, offering insights into the development of musical forms and the evolution of instruments.

Course Schedule:

• February 7: Beethoven’s Sonata Op. 13 No. 8 “Pathétique”
  Instructor: Emily Jou
  Explore the development of Sonata and Rondo form through Beethoven’s iconic “Pathétique” Sonata.
• February 14: A Journey Through Time
  Instructor: Emily Jou
  Take a musical journey from the Baroque era to the Modern era, featuring works that highlight the evolution of musical styles.
• February 21: Beethoven’s Late Period and His Piano Sonata No. 31
  Instructor: Jessica Jou
  Delve into Beethoven’s late period, focusing on the profound and innovative Piano Sonata No. 31.
• February 28: The Two Romantic Friends - Chopin and Liszt
  Instructor: Jessica Jou
  Discover the friendship and musical contributions of Romantic composers Chopin and Liszt.
• March 4: History of the Cello
  Instructor: Ruthanne Clements
  Learn about the history of the cello, tracing its development and significance through the centuries.
• March 11: Today’s Cello
  Instructor: Ruthanne Clements
  Examine the role of the cello in contemporary music and its continued impact on the musical world.

An off-site waiver form must be signed prior to participating in this course.

Masks are not mandatory, distancing is recommended. Should any participant wish to wear a mask they are welcome to do so. Chilliwack ElderCollege and community partners will continue to follow all health protocols.
