Description:

Write On Target!

Write on Target is a four-part writing course to help writers get started, keep going, and overcome challenges they might experience in the writing process.

  • The first session will address the importance of understanding a writer’s mindset, being organized, the value of reliable research, finding the time to write and overcoming writer’s block.
  • Session two will be focused on developing a storyline. It will centre on character development, their backstories, their conflicts and struggles that drive the plot forward, and the character arc.
  • Session three will focus on the many values of dialogue, how to write good dialogue, punctuation, and how the expressions of individual characters help unfold the plot.
  • Session four explores the value and the pros and cons of artificial intelligence. AI has exploded in significance in the past few years, but it should be used with caution. While AI may produce a grammatically perfect text, it is important that it does not overthrow the unique quality, warmth, and writing style of an individual author or journalist. Each session will be interactive, inviting students to share their experiences, questions, and encourage conversation.
