Easy Sampler Quilt – Building Blocks (Confident Beginner)

In this session students will make 12 Basic Blocks that will be put into a Sampler Quilt measuring 38” x 48 ½” approximately over the 5-week (3 hour) sessions working through a Sampler Book. Students will purchase fabric required prior to the class as listed in supply list.  This class is suitable for the student who has quilted before taken the Intro to Quilting class with Trish or can master the 1/4” seam required to make accurate blocks for piecing.

This class will complete the top of the Sampler Quilt only and instructions for Backing & Batting will be available to complete at home or if time permits in class.

Instructor will have some quilting supplies available for use in the class (rotary cutters, mats & rulers)

Ironing stations will be available in the class – NO mini-irons please!!!!

Sampler Book is included in registration fee.

Level – Suitable to confident beginners

Please bring:

• A sewing Machine in good working order & the operating manual/instructions
• White – 1 metre
• Red – 1 metre
• Aqua - .4 metre
• Grey – 1.4 metres
• Thread – Dove or light grey in cotton or polyester
• Pins/Pin cushion
•  Seam ripper
• Measuring tape
• Fabric scissors
• If you have quilting supplies please bring:  Rotary cutter, rulers, cutting mat.

Fabric Requirements: Solids are preferred however complimentary small prints (non-directional) are okay.  You could substitute other colours but contrasting is key to successful blocks in this Sampler

Masks are not mandatory, distancing is recommended. Should any participant wish to wear a mask they are welcome to do so. Chilliwack ElderCollege and community partners will continue to follow all health protocols.

Prerequisites: Must bring your own sewing machine in good working order. Please test your machines prior to attending. This class is suitable for the student who has quilted before taken the Intro to Quilting class with Trish or can master the 1/4” seam required to make accurate blocks for piecing.
