Description:
Working with encaustic paints and oil sticks, students will experience techniques that create transparencies and depth. Adding materials such as collage, handmade papers, prints and photo print will be ideal for encasing thin objects within the layers of wax, allowing for a polished surface.All materials and equipment included.No prior experience needed.Workshop is 10am-3pm with 1 hour break in the middle Encaustic is a Greek word meaning “to heat or burn into”. Heat is used throughout the process, from melting the beeswax and varnish to fusing the layers of wax. Encaustic consists of natural bees wax and dammar resin (crystallized tree sap). The medium may be used alone, for its transparency or adhesive qualities, or used pigmented.The medium is melted and applied with a brush, or any tool the artist wishes, to create. Each layer is then reheated to fuse it to the previous layer.
