Description:
Can an invasive plant be transformed into something beautiful?
Join us in an exploration of Dog-strangling Vine (Cynanchum rossicum), a noxious invasive species, as we turn its fibres into usable material. Hundreds of pounds of this plant, once left to break down in the summer sun, become a sterile slurry. Instead of waste, we a full offering.
In this hands-on workshop lead by Cole McLaughlin, we’ll get to know this plant intimately... learning how to harvest, pound, sort, spin, and cord their fibres into something new. Through this process, we engage in both ecological stewardship and the revival of ancestral skills like spinning and weaving.
At Just Food Farm, Earth Path educators have spent six years observing Dog-strangling Vine - its spread, its decline, and its impact on the landscape. By working with it curiously and carefully, we strengthen our connection to the land, each other, and the traditions of fibre-making.
Come be part of this artful reclamation - creating beauty from what is vilified and misunderstood.
