Nature, Health and Research

There is a growing body of forest medicine research indicating that spending time in nature is good for your physical and emotional wellbeing. This experiential talk, led by Dr. Kari Krogh—a research collaborator and certified mindfulness meditation teacher—will introduce you to the science and practices of forest bathing (shinrin yoku).

Dr. Krogh will present key research findings in plain language and guide participants through simple, sensory-based practices to foster mindful connection with the natural world. Sample activities include a trauma-informed grounding practice with several calming options, a guided chocolate meditation to open the senses, and moments to explore slowing down, softening your gaze, and tuning into your environment.

You’ll leave with practical ways to connect to nature at your own pace, in any setting—indoors or out. This inclusive, wheelchair-accessible session welcomes all backgrounds and experience levels, and includes optional information for those interested in becoming certified Nature and Forest Therapy Guides.

For more information about your guide, check out Dr. Kari Krogh's Bio

Notes: This is a presentation designed to increase knowledge and skill. It does not involve a forest bathing walk.

Prerequisites: None. We welcome people of all ages and abilities, skeptics and converts, experienced campers and novices.
