Humane Heroes is the perfect program for animal-loving youth ages 14 to 17. Over eight consecutive weeks, participants will explore the world of animal advocacy, discover how our shelter operates, and get to know the incredible animals in our care.
Offered three times a year, in fall, winter, and spring, this two-hour weekly program blends engaging lessons, hands-on activities, and volunteer experience. It’s a fun and meaningful way to learn, connect, and make a difference.
Students working toward their community service hours will earn credit for the time they spend at the shelter. Volunteer opportunities may include enrichment toy making, reading to the animals, animal photography, or animal socialization. Participants can earn up to 16 volunteer hours by meeting the program’s attendance and participation expectations. Optional online training completed at home provides the opportunity to earn 5 additional volunteer hours, bringing the maximum total to 21 volunteer hours.
