Description:
Stop motion is an animation technique where objects like clay models or dolls are brought to life frame by frame, used in movies like Fantastic Mr. Fox and The Nightmare Before Christmas. If your student loves building and sculpting and wants to create their own world, this is the workshop for them! Students learn how to design miniature sets, create characters, record audio, and use editing to bring their stories to life. Each small group will complete a short animated film over the course of the week, then we'll watch them together on the big screen! Rising 7th-12th graders can work towards the Light House Achievement Award by completing programs in three different categories. This workshop counts as one Special Skills credit. Visit lighthousestudio.org/achievement-award for more information. Tuition assistance is available for all Light House workshops. To apply, fill out the Tuition Assistance application and wait for a response from our staff with further instructions.
The film Taco Tragedy, created in the 2025 Middle School Stop Motion Animation workshop, won the Best Stop Motion award at the New York Short Animation Festival and was accepted into the 2026 Big Teeth Small Shorts Film Festival!
