This workshop is all about experimentation. In a series of exercises, you’ll learn advanced filmmaking techniques from Light House staff and special guest artists, and get your hands on our coolest equipment! Past workshops have included drones, gimbals, VR, and a motion capture suit. This technology powers modern video game animation and blockbusters like The Lord of the Rings. 

Advanced Film Lab is suited for students who want to dive into technique and technology while making several shorter films.

Required age: 14 - 20 years old on the day of the activity

Notes: Light House Studio is closed on Juneteenth, Thursday July 19. There is no class that day. Classes fill quickly. In the event that a class doesn’t fill, registration will close one week before the scheduled start date. High school students in Charlottesville City and Albemarle County public schools may be able to use Light House workshops as work-based learning credit towards their diplomas. Prerequisites: This advanced workshop is designed for students with filmmaking experience, either at Light House or on their own. The application will ask for a personal statement and a work sample.
