Description:

In this workshop, students will dive deep into the fascinating world of animation.  Whether it’s 2D or 3D, digital or hand drawn, stop-motion or After Effect, students can choose the medium which best suits their story.  The students will also have access to a professional motion capture suit. (If you aren’t familiar with this, it’s what they used for Gollum in the Lord of the Rings). 

Animation gives the creator total creative control to make their visions into a reality. So whether you want to make a character-based narrative, an experimental film, or a dynamic title sequence, this workshop is for you!

Required age: 14 - 20 years old on the day of the activity

Notes: This is a two-week workshop; classes run Monday-Friday. The screening will be on the final Friday. Classes fill quickly. In the event that a class doesn’t fill, registration will close one week before the scheduled start date. High school students in Charlottesville City and Albemarle County public schools may be able to use Light House workshops as work-based learning credit towards their diplomas. Prerequisites: This advanced workshop is designed for students with filmmaking experience, either at Light House or on their own. The application will ask for a personal statement and a work sample.
