Description:

In this new series from Dr. Andrew Scott, one of Canada’s leading musicians and musical scholars, we’ll examine the genesis of six of the most influential songs in history— and the mark that each has left on generations of listeners and the careers of legendary musicians.

From Beethoven’s Ode to Joy to the Beatles’ Eleanor Rigby; from a Bob Marley classic to a Leonard Cohen standard endlessly reimagined by artists of different genres, Andy will explore what makes these musical anthems so appealing to our ears—and the reasons that each has had such an enduring impact within pop culture and our wider society.

This series is led by Dr. Andrew Scott, a professor of music at Humber College. A distinguished music critic and scholar of musical history, and one of Canada’s most accomplished guitarists and composers, Andy’s passion for music is truly infectious and his recent lecture series, Nights to Remember: The Great Concerts, was an audience favourite within the Speakers Annex community.
