Here's one for the next generation's beat makers, hit producers, and overall whiz kids! Ever wanted to roll up your sleeves and leap into a professional recording studio to learn from one of the industry's best engineers? Now is your chance!

In this four-week mini-course, students will have the chance to immerse themselves in the world of sound at The Cocoon - a gorgeous shrine in Jersey City Heights, a 1200-square foot open concept room equipped with a custom-built analog recording console, Sonor drumkit, Kawaii upright piano, guitars, amps, congas, and plenty of other gear to pick up and get creative with. 

Across the four sessions, students will nerd out about:

- how microphones and speakers work

- sound waves, frequency, and the way actual sound gets recorded

- timbre and tonality of different instruments

- diffusion, absorption, and reflection in acoustics 

As well as headier topics like cymatics (visualizing sound), the connection between sound and emotion,  and what makes a song a song? And of course, the credo is good vibrations always!

Notes: Sessions will take place off-site at Cocoon Recording Studio in Jersey City Heights (107 Hutton Street). Class will be taught by Corey Zack, bio below: Corey Zack is the founder of The Cocoon, a boutique recording studio based in Jersey City Heights. He is the composer for the award-winning film (Boston Film Festival 2018) "Mnemophrenia." As an audio engineer and producer, Corey co-hosts a diverse workshop portfolio including recording/mixing/mic techniques and guitar pedal building. His work is featured with Bergen Makerspace and the iconic Sonic Ranch in El Paso, Texas. The Cocoon has given birth to over a hundred projects, recognized by the Jersey City community, which, in 2020, let to Zack receiving an Outstanding Business Grant. Continuing to deepen his impact on aspiring producers and engineers, Corey Zack is expanding in-person recording workshops and online tutorials, making music recording education an integrated part of Cocoon Audio.

Prerequisites: For students ages 12 and up!
