Description:

Ready to unleash your comedic genius? Join our Adult Sketch Writing course and learn how to craft sharp, hilarious sketches that captivate and entertain. Whether you're new to writing or a seasoned writer looking to refine your skills, this class will guide you through the essentials—from collaborative brainstorm sessions to character creation to punchlines that land. With a mix of hands-on exercises, peer editing, and feedback from our fearless leader John Meehan, you’ll walk away with completed sketches and the confidence to keep writing.

By the end of the six sessions, you will have delivered brand new material to the two improv classes, and we will find actors in those rooms to perform your original sketches in our MST Comedy Night, celebrating the searing wits and hard work of all of our adult students!

Price: $275.00 Taxes waived

Notes: Class will be taught by MST alumnus John Meehan, bio below: John started his comedy journey in Los Angeles in 2011. After taking his first improv class, he was hooked and he never looked back. A graduate of Second City Hollywood Conservatory, Improv Olympic West, and Pack Theater Improv, John has trained extensively in sketch writing, TV writing, character writing, and physical performance programs. He was a sketch comedy writer and performer at Second City Hollywood for six years as part of their house ensembles, and he was on a New Forms Team at iO West called Toasty that ran for nine months. His one-man show A Shot of Courage has been produced at Solocom 2021 and 2023, at the PIT in Manhattan, at Q.E.D. Astoria, and at the Uptown Comedy Festival in Utica, NY. He was accepted into the Miami Improv Festival, the Hudson Valley Comedy Festival, and most recently appeared in the Off-Off Broadway play Airport and the Strange Package. John found Mile Square Theatre by way of being cast as an understudy in the solo physical comedy show Balloonacy in 2023 and is thrilled to be back teaching!

Prerequisites: A continuation of the class we piloted in the fall, but first time sketch writers are WELCOME!

More information: Class runs on six Mons from 7-9 pm, 4/14 - 5/19, followed by MST Comedy Night on Wed, 5/21!
