Description:

In our Meteorology program for grades 4-7, kids will embark on an exciting exploration of meteorology, the study of weather and climate. They’ll learn about precipitation, wind, temperature, and the technology that meteorologists use to make predictions. Hands-on experiments like creating clouds with cotton balls, understanding wind formation with simple science, and making windsocks to track wind direction will bring the science of weather to life. Students will also get a chance to learn about different types of clouds, how they form, and how they’re used to predict weather. They’ll use real weather tools like an anemometer and rain gauge to gather data and understand how scientists measure and predict weather events. By the end, students will have a deeper understanding of weather and the role of meteorologists in our daily lives.

This program covers BC Science Curriculum including:

Big ideas:

  • Energy can be transformed
  • Matter has mass, takes up space, and can change phase
  • All living things sense and respond to their environment.
  • Earth and its climate have changed over geological time.
