Description:
At Poetry Slam Camp, you'll play with words like never before! We’ll make cool word webs, write silly rhymes, awesome haikus, funny limericks, and even our own raps! You’ll get to create your very own crafty poetry book full of your masterpieces. Then, in the afternoon, it’s time to shine! Step up to the mic (or just share from your seat) in our super chill Poetry Slam. No pressure—just big cheers and applause for everyone! Whether you’re a budding poet or are just curious to try, the day is perfect for you. Come explore the magical world of poetry and performance, make new friends, and have an unforgettable day full of laughs, creativity, and self-expression! Playwright Kate McGrath is very versed in this theme, having created curriculum for many years for Philadelphia Young Playwrights. She will have developmentally-appropriate activites for our youngest early-readers/writers. Kate always brings her bag of theatre and improv games to get the juices flowing and our costume closet always proves a good way to unlock original stories! In addition, teaching artist and children's book illustrator, Kate Garchinsky, will be assisting the day with an art-and-craft focus to crafting original poetry and writing journals and other ways to express yourself through pictures and images! Schedule: 8:45am Drop Off The day's activities are laid out similar to our typical camp day. Send lunch and two snacks along with a refillable water bottle. This program is led by our professional teaching artists and supported by vetted teen assistants (15 yrs or older) and volunteer CITs (13 & 14 yrs old).
