Description:
Work Skills, Prep for Winter, Know the Land, have fun.
Tuesday Foxes and Wolves has all the foundational elements of GOS programs. We engage hands-on skills, nature based challenges, sensory awareness games, and get out on the land and waterscapes outside Guelph. We track animals, tend fire, make rope from natural fibres we find on the landscape, carve wood, and build shelters. Learning and development is always invisible, natural, and fun.
Foxes and Wolves has a broader age group, ranging from 7 - 14 years. While some participants appreciate being grouped along age lines, a number of students & parents have expressed value in mixing ages, a departure in itself from the classroom format and other extra-curricular options. This aspect offers some important opportunities for kids to take care and learn from each other, to look up to some, and role model for others. With the great ratios we keep, staff are able to create smaller groups within the program according to age, interest, ability or energy level.
Responsive mentorship ensures an experience suited to the individual and group, and meets each individual where they are at. Art of Questioning flips the normal teaching model on its head, appealing to the inquisitive focus, keen eyes, and curiosity of young people. This full day option features opening circle, thrilling warm up games that teach, a focused project, time for rest & reflection, snack and free play, with an afternoon that makes time for timelessness: an opportunity for young people to pursue their interests, hone a craft, be themselves. This could mean tending a fire alone or in a small group, archery, sit spot, or getting out on the land.
As always, the experience is designed to be welcoming & inclusive, emergent & dynamic, safe and yet edgy. A great place to start at GOS programs. Hope to see you out there :)
