Horaire :
Le lundi, 10 h 00 - 12 h 00 ,
Responsable : Audra Bullard
Description :
In concert at the Highlands-Cashiers Chamber Music Festival, the Borromeo String Quartet will play Beethoven’s Op. 59, No. 3, one of Beethoven’s most beloved quartets. In discussion, Nicholas Kitchen will lead the audience through this remarkable music by sharing with them the music as written in Beethoven’s own hand. Looking at Beethoven’s manuscripts is always fascinating. Immediately upon looking at the hand-written document it is evident the many choices that Beethoven made. Kitchen will point out the options he considered and guess together with the listeners why Beethoven made the choices that he did. These are marks that Beethoven used in exactly the same form for the last 25 years of his life and they fill the manuscripts of almost all of his most famous pieces. Enjoy the Borromeo Quartet as they explore these layers in their concert and hear Nicholas Kitchen delve into many emotionally rich markings in the manuscript in his discussion, and see each of the pages written by Beethoven himself. Location: Martin Lipscomb Theater (PAC) - 507 Chestnut Street, Highlands, NC This program is in collaboration with the Highlands-Cashiers Chamber Music Festival. Violinist Nicholas Kitchen has performed throughout the world both as soloist and chamber musician, most significantly as founding member and first violinist of the Borromeo String Quartet for 30 years. He has extensively performed and worked on projects with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, the Library of Congress, and Performance Today, and has initiated many innovative collaborations, combining multiple forms of artistic expression with performance. The BSQ has performed his acclaimed transcriptions of Bach’s Goldberg Variations and the Well-Tempered Clavier Book I. He teaches at the New England Conservatory of Music and is the Artistic Director of the Heifetz International Music Institute.
